[Financial News] Polaris Uno has completed development of KTS (Korea Tangle Free Super Light), a next-generation lightweight material for wigs, and is preparing to target global markets. Its strategy is to diversify its product portfolio, secure new revenue and improve profitability by adding a high-value-added product to its existing flagship flame-retardant high-temperature fiber.
According to Polaris Uno on the 30th, KTS is a new product that brings together the company’s expertise in hollow polyester yarn technology and spinning, accumulated for more than 20 years. Its hollow structure, which creates empty space inside the yarn, reduces weight while delivering ample volume and excellent curl definition. Another feature is that it minimizes tangling and makes brushing easier, allowing it to be used for a variety of hairstyles.
A Polaris Uno representative said, “This development is significant because we incorporated manufacturing technologies developed in-house over a long period into the product, strengthening our technological differentiation from later entrants.” The representative added, “We will continue developing high-performance products based on our R&D capabilities and production experience in hollow yarn.”
The company also expects to strengthen its ability to respond to the market through complementarity with its existing flagship product. While its flame-retardant high-temperature fiber has built competitiveness in the premium wig-fiber market based on its heat resistance and flame-retardant properties, KTS is distinguished by its light weight, volume and curl-forming ability.
The company is also in discussions with overseas customers to commercialize the product. According to the company, it is currently conducting sample tests and evaluating potential applications for KTS with major global customers. It has received positive initial responses, including indications of purchase interest from some customers.
Synthetic fibers for wigs affect product choice not only through their styling capabilities but also through their weight when worn and ease of care. Accordingly, industry observers say that high-performance materials that improve these attributes together could serve as a differentiating factor in the premium market.
A company representative said, “KTS is a next-generation product that enhances lightness and styling capabilities through hollow-yarn technology.” The representative added, “Having confirmed purchase interest from overseas customers, we will actively pursue commercialization and establish a new revenue base.”
The representative continued, “We plan to develop our existing flame-retardant high-temperature fiber and KTS as our two main product lines to meet the diverse needs of global customers.” The representative added, “Through continued technological development and an increased share of high-value-added products, we will improve profitability and contribute to enhancing corporate and shareholder value over the medium to long term.”
Meanwhile, Polaris Uno has built its competitiveness in the global synthetic-fiber market for wigs, which is dominated by Japanese companies, on the strength of its accumulated production technology and quality-control capabilities. More recently, it has also strengthened its ability to serve the North American market, obtaining results showing that its yarn for braids meets safety assessment criteria related to California’s Proposition 65.
