[Financial News] CJ Bioscience has developed a personalized diet index reflecting the gut microbiota characteristics of Koreans and unveiled research findings on precision nutrition and the diet-microbiome relationship.
CJ Bioscience said on the 30th that it had delivered two poster presentations and one oral presentation at the 2026 International Conference of the Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition (KFN), held at the Jeju International Convention Center from the 28th to the 30th.
The poster presentations featured research on MACPLAN, a personalized nutrition solution based on microbiota-accessible carbohydrates (MAC), which gut microbes can use. The presentations covered a precision nutrition strategy combining in vitro screening with human trials, progress in developing a combined probiotics-MAC formulation, and gut-mimicking microbial assessment technologies DIGEST and DIGEST-Flow.
At a microbiome-related session on the 29th, the company presented findings from diet-microbiome research conducted jointly with a research team led by Professor Jeong-eun Lee of Seoul National University’s Department of Food and Nutrition. The key achievement was developing a Korean-specific “gut microbiota-targeted diet index” based on data from a cohort of healthy Korean adults.
In an external validation using publicly available data from around 10,000 people, the index showed a stronger association with clinical indicators than existing dietary indices. The company also pointed to its potential use in digital healthcare services such as diet-management apps, as it can assess diet using only a simplified questionnaire.
CJ Bioscience plans to strengthen its personalized wellness platform and Gut Inside, its gut microbiota analysis service, based on this research, and expand collaborations with research institutions.
