[Financial News] As the era of physical AI—artificial intelligence (AI) that perceives the real world and acts physically—arrives, the education sector, too, needs the capacity to understand and use it. In response, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education will be the first in the country to designate five physical AI research schools starting next year and begin operating them in earnest. The aim is to lead the way in a future-oriented education model based on physical AI, going beyond simple coding instruction and enabling students to think for themselves, discuss, and solve real-world problems.
The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education said on the 30th that it will hold a physical AI education workshop on the theme “Beyond the Screen, Into Reality” on the afternoon of the 2nd of next month at the main auditorium of the Busan Education Research and Information Institute, for around 300 teachers and education professionals.
Physical AI is a technology in which AI is combined with physical devices such as robots and sensors to perceive the actual environment, make decisions autonomously, and act directly. As AI moves beyond processing information on screens and enters the stage of operating in the real world, students are also expected to develop the ability to understand and use it.
The workshop focuses on helping teachers, in an era when artificial intelligence and the physical world are converging, gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts and principles of physical AI and build the capacity to design and apply future-oriented lessons suited to students’ levels. The event is expected to comprehensively address policy, technology, and examples of practical application.
At the event, education supervisor Son Je-deuk of the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education will outline the direction and implementation tasks for “Physical AI Education Policy,” and Professor Lee In-ho of Pusan National University will give a lecture titled “A Decade of Changes in Robotics Technology and the Future of Physical AI Education.” Teachers Park Jae-hyeon of Naeseong Elementary School, Im Jae-cheol of Hanbada Middle School, and Im Byeong-ryul of Dongnae High School are then expected to share classroom practices and know-how for physical AI education at each school level.
Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun said, “As AI moves beyond the screen and enters the real world, the educational environment is also reaching a major turning point. I hope this workshop and the operation of the research schools will increase understanding of and interest in physical AI, and serve as a starting point for bringing it into educational settings.”
