Kim Jae-won, a People Power Party Supreme Council member, strongly criticized the president’s excessive use of social media (X, formerly Twitter) and approach to communication, saying it “looks more like a real-time comment team than the running of state affairs.”
At a People Power Party Supreme Council meeting, Kim said, “The president has posted as many as 145 times over the past month and is posting 10 or more times even within a 24-hour period,” adding, “Imagine how much better it would be if that energy were devoted to issues of state.”
He went on to raise concerns about the substance and tone of the messages.
Kim said, “Unfiltered explanations and policy announcements are being made abruptly on social media, and the president is picking verbal fights with the opposition, supporters and, indeed, the entire public.”
Kim also added, “The attitude of firing back at critical voices with ‘Are you saying I should just sit back and take the hits?’ amounts to nothing more than shifting responsibility,” and, “At a time when even people who supported the president are voicing their embarrassment and approval ratings continue to fall, stubbornly insisting that this is simply ‘communication’ is only inviting dysfunction in government.”
