[Financial News] A constable in her 20s assigned to Yeongdeok Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province is under an internal affairs investigation over allegations that she hid her boyfriend at her home. An arrest warrant had been issued for him on fraud charges.
According to Newsis on the 30th, police are investigating, among other things, whether Constable A, in her 20s and assigned to Yeongdeok Police Station, knew in advance about the crimes of her boyfriend B, who is in his 30s.
B was arrested this past July at Constable A’s home in Buk-gu, Pohang. The investigation division of Pohang Bukbu Police Station tracked B’s whereabouts and apprehended him. Constable A was also at home at the time, according to findings.
Police are investigating whether Constable A knew about B’s crimes and turned a blind eye to them, and whether she hid B at her residence.
A reportedly explained that she did not know about B’s crimes and had not created any potentially problematic situation apart from issues related to their relationship.
The response of investigators from Pohang Bukbu Police Station at the time of the arrest is also under investigation. Authorities are examining whether the investigators took appropriate action despite knowing that A was a police officer and that the arrest took place at her home.
B is being held in custody while standing trial at the Pohang Branch of the Daegu District Court on four fraud charges.
A police official said, “An internal affairs investigation is currently underway, and as a temporary measure, Constable A has been transferred to another department.”
