[Financial News] An everyday sports facility where people can enjoy running along Anyangcheon and indoor park golf is coming to Shinmokdong Station on Seoul Subway Line 9. The Seoul Metropolitan Government said on the 30th that it would open a Fun Station on basement level 1 of Shinmokdong Station, equipped with a runner support space and a screen park golf course.
The facility opening this time is the ninth under the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Fun Station project, which transforms underused spaces in subway stations into places for exercise and leisure. It has been built near exits 1 and 2 of Shinmokdong Station. The facility connects nearby sports amenities, including the Anyangcheon riverside trail and an outdoor park golf course, so people can enjoy everything from outdoor running to indoor exercise in one place.
The 213-square-meter runner support space has three changing rooms each for men and women and 14 storage lockers each. The changing rooms are free to use, while locker fees start at 3,000 won for four hours. It is open from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. A vending machine selling exercise supplies, including shower wipes and energy gels, has also been installed.
The 228-square-meter indoor park golf facility has six screen park golf bays. It can be used regardless of weather, including heat waves, rain, or cold, and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fee is 6,000 won for 18 holes.
The facility will draw on private-sector expertise for its operation. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will run the runner support space, while Lejero Park Golf, selected as the operator in July, will build and operate the screen park golf facility. In addition to general use, group lessons and programs for clubs are also planned.
Free introductory lessons for citizens new to park golf and educational programs for socially vulnerable groups are also planned. The free lessons will require advance registration, with the number of places and schedule to be announced later.
Fun Station is a Seoul Metropolitan Government project that repurposes underused spaces inside subway stations as places for exercise, culture, and rest. Since the first location opened at Yeouinaru Station in 2024, eight locations have been operating, including Ttukseom Station, Mukgol Station, Gwanghwamun Station, World Cup Stadium Station, Hoehyeon Station, City Hall Station, and Munjeong Station. With the opening at Shinmokdong Station, the total will rise to nine.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to open its 10th Fun Station at Mongchontoseong Station next month. The project will also expand, with construction set to begin within the year at Magongnaru Station, Junggye Station, and Achasan Station.
Public participation programs are also being held. About 420 people visited the Fun Station promotional booth at the Runners Festival, held at Yeouido Park on the 24th. A total of 122 people took part in Fun Station Runaround, a running challenge organized around seven sports-themed Fun Stations, and ran 8-kilometer courses near each location.
Ahn Dae-hee, Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Director of Future Space Planning, said, “The Fun Station at Shinmokdong Station connects the riverside exercise environment along Anyangcheon with indoor exercise facilities at a subway station, creating a space where people can enjoy running and park golf close by in their everyday lives.” He added, “We will continue to expand Fun Stations that reflect the character of each area across all 25 autonomous districts, one by one, and make them vibrant spaces that people can find and use close to where they live.”
