According to Rodong Sinmun, North Korea held the “Unmanned Aviation Technology Development-2026” exhibition the previous day and staged demonstrations of the capabilities of various unmanned aircraft and major weapons systems. North Korea did not specify the location, but the South Korean military had confirmed the previous day that the missile launch took place in Wonsan.
The show of force included a missile-launch drill using a so-called “mixed firing” method. The exercises included launches of “tactical suicide unmanned attack aircraft” and “tactical cruise missiles,” an airstrike drill by multipurpose unmanned aircraft, and firing by a 600-mm multiple rocket launcher artillery battalion.
Rodong Sinmun claimed that air-to-ground missiles and cruise missiles launched from tactical suicide unmanned attack aircraft and multipurpose unmanned aircraft precisely struck island targets with 100% accuracy.
Meanwhile, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had detected about 10 short-range ballistic missiles launched from around Wonsan in North Korea toward the East Sea at around 12:30 p.m. the previous day.
The JCS said, “The North Korean missiles flew about 250 km, and South Korea and the United States are conducting a detailed analysis of their exact specifications,” adding, “South Korea and the United States closely monitored the missile launches from the preparation stage and detected and tracked the missiles immediately after launch.”
