[Financial News] Actor Song Il-gook will share the daily lives of children in Kenya who are responsible for supporting and caring for their families. He will do so through a special charity broadcast featuring the children’s stories and their wish to return to school and study.
According to ChildFund Korea, a specialist child welfare organization, the special broadcast for the charity project “Steps of Hope,” jointly run by the foundation and MBC, will air at 10 a.m. on the 31st. Song Il-gook, a goodwill ambassador for ChildFund Korea, will introduce the stories of three children he met in Kenya.
Mary (9) uses money her father earned selling scrap metal to prepare corn porridge for the three-member family, including her father and younger sibling. After her mother died of cancer in January this year, the family’s circumstances worsened and she dropped out of school. Her dream is to study again and become a doctor who treats sick people.
After losing her mother, Katrin (14) collects plastic and scrap metal from a dump and sells them to care for her younger siblings. Despite the family’s difficult circumstances, she wants to continue her education.
Patrick (10) supports the family while caring for his grandmother, who is losing her sight, and his younger sibling. Song Il-gook encourages the child, who is waiting for circumstances to improve and for the day they can return to school.
Meanwhile, Song Il-gook previously visited Burkina Faso in 2012 through “Hope Road Expedition,” a project he took part in with ChildFund Korea and KBS, and shared the stories of local children.
ChildFund Korea plans to use donations raised through the broadcast to improve housing conditions for children in Kenya and provide livelihood and educational support. Viewers can donate by calling the main number announced during the broadcast or through ChildFund Korea’s official website.
