[Financial News] A logistics center that supplies donated goods to stores in the northwestern part of the Seoul metropolitan area and an outlet that resells donated goods after their discount periods end have opened in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Operating the facilities will provide jobs for 13 people who are seniors or have disabilities.
According to the Miral Welfare Foundation on the 29th, with support from Hyundai Engineering, the foundation established Goodwill Store’s West Logistics Center and Miral Siksa Store, an outlet, and held an opening ceremony on the 28th.
The facility covers about 3,300 square meters, with 90% of the total space used for logistics facilities and the remaining 10% for the outlet. The West Logistics Center will serve as a hub for managing items donated by citizens and supplying them to Goodwill Store locations in the northwestern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.
Miral Siksa Store gathers and resells “Color Out” products from existing stores after their “Color Sale” period has ended. Under the Color Sale, one of the five colors shown on price tags is selected each week, and products marked with that color are discounted by 50%. Products whose discount period has ended are no longer offered for sale at the existing stores. The aim is to reduce resource waste and increase reuse by giving these items another chance to be sold.
The two facilities will also provide jobs for 10 seniors and three workers with disabilities. Goodwill Store is a vocational rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities that provides them with jobs using revenue from the sale of items donated by individuals and businesses.
Hyundai Engineering supported the construction of Miral Ilsan Store in 2020, followed by Miral Tanhyeon Store in 2022 and Miral Baekseok Store last year. A total of 7,000 people took part in the employee donation campaign, which began in 2017, and donated 140,000 items.
Hong Jeong-gil, chairman of the Miral Welfare Foundation, said, “It will be a key hub for the smooth circulation of citizens’ cherished donations and a foundation for helping workers with disabilities achieve sustainable independence.”
