[Financial News] The shark “Bukangi,” which had been living at Busan’s North Port for more than a month, has not been seen for a third straight day. Authorities have expanded the search area, but the shark has not been found, and there have been no reports of sightings from the public.
According to relevant agencies, including the National Institute of Fisheries Science, Bukangi was not found during on-site monitoring in the area around Busan’s North Port on the 29th.
Bukangi was sighted on consecutive days in waters off the pier at Busan Port’s International Passenger Terminal, from the 24th through the 26th. However, authorities did not spot the shark at all during monitoring from the 27th through the 29th.
To search for Bukangi, relevant agencies expanded the observation area from North Port Marina to the waters off Pier No. 5. So far, however, they have found no trace that could help determine Bukangi’s route.
Previously, tips from the public had helped confirm Bukangi’s location, but recently there have not even been any reports of sightings.
However, authorities say they cannot conclude from the current situation alone that Bukangi has left the North Port.
It remains possible that Bukangi has not surfaced and is staying in deeper waters of the North Port.
Relevant agencies say that if there are no on-site monitoring results or public sighting reports for about a week, they may assess the possibility that Bukangi has left the North Port as more likely.
Bukangi was first found in an artificial channel at Busan North Port Waterfront Park. It appeared on September 18 and stayed there for more than a month, attracting public attention.
On the 21st, Bukangi left the narrow artificial channel through the relevant agencies’ third operation to guide it offshore. It then passed North Port Pier No. 1 and moved to waters off the International Passenger Terminal, about 2 km away, expanding its range.
