【Financial News, Chuncheon = Kim Gi-seop, Staff Writer】A YouTube talk show in which Gangwon Governor Woo Sang-ho personally opened up about the first 100 days of the province’s ninth popularly elected administration has made its debut.
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province said on the 29th that the first episode of “Hello, This Is Gangwon Province,” an online talk show hosted by the governor to engage with residents, was released at 5 p.m. that day on the province’s official YouTube channel, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province TV. The first regular resident-engagement program launched since the ninth popularly elected administration took office, it gave the governor a chance to share, in a relaxed conversational format, behind-the-scenes stories about provincial governance that are difficult to convey through briefings and press releases alone.
The first episode’s theme was “100 Days in Gangwon: What Has the Province Been Up To?” It candidly covered policies pursued over the past 100 days and what happened along the way. Filming took place on an outdoor bench by the main building of the provincial government, with provincial employees joining as guests. A civil servant in charge of a project to expand the national road network shared behind-the-scenes stories from trips made to get the project incorporated into national policy, while provincial call center counselors conveyed, in the voices of those on the ground, the questions residents actually ask and the inconveniences they report.
The talk show will operate as an ongoing channel for communication, not a one-off event. The province plans to announce each upcoming topic in advance, collect residents’ questions and opinions through comments, and incorporate them into the next broadcast. The format allows residents’ comments on one video to become topics for the next episode.
Governor Woo has broadened his communication efforts through a two-way forum with provincial government employees and engagement with the media. Starting next year, he plans to visit all 18 cities and counties in the province for meetings, share his governing philosophy and policy direction with local media and municipal and county governments, and incorporate views raised on the ground into provincial policy.
Gangwon State spokesperson Kim Young-ho said, “The first episode featured call center counselors and working-level civil servants appearing in person to share with the governor the inside story of the province’s first 100 days in office—what residents had been curious about.” He added, “We’ll make sure residents’ questions gathered through comments lead to topics for the next episode, and develop this into an online channel where anyone can easily engage with the provincial government.”
Meanwhile the first episode is available on Gangwon State’s official YouTube channel, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province TV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGIYqhQyTY8).
