[Financial News] Buoyed by growth in its North American robot solutions business, Doosan Robotics achieved double-digit top-line growth in the third quarter of this year. Losses continued amid the expansion of its North American operations, investment in AI research and development (R&D), and hiring, but the loss narrowed somewhat.
Doosan Robotics reported consolidated revenue of 16.2 billion won and an operating loss of 13.4 billion won for the third quarter of this year, the company disclosed on the 29th. Revenue rose 59.1% from the same period a year earlier, while the operating loss narrowed 12.2% from 15.3 billion won in the same period last year. Compared with the previous quarter, revenue fell 8.5%, but the operating loss decreased 7.0%.
Revenue for the first three quarters of this year totaled 49.1 billion won, up 146.0% from the same period a year earlier. The cumulative operating loss for the same period fell 7.3%, from 43.0 billion won to 39.9 billion won. Growth was led by the North American solutions business. Revenue in the U.S. subsidiary’s EOL (End-of-Line) segment rose about 55% year on year. EOL refers to the final processes on a manufacturing line, such as product packaging and palletizing. As the North American solutions business grew, North America’s share of cumulative revenue through the third quarter of this year expanded to 55%.
The company said it incurred an operating loss because of the cost burden from expanding its North American operations, investing in AI R&D, and hiring additional staff.
The company plans to focus on accelerating growth in its intelligent robot solutions business while expanding into industrial humanoids. It also plans to develop solutions incorporating AI technology. After announcing a physical AI collaboration with NVIDIA Corporation in June, Doosan Robotics held a technical workshop in September. Building on this work, it plans to unveil solutions based on an “agentic robot OS” sometime next year. An agentic robot OS is software that enables AI to assess the work environment, optimize routes, and support safe and precise operations.
The company is also pursuing technology development through government-funded projects. On the 6th, Doosan Robotics won two projects in succession in a program jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KEIT): “Development of Next-Generation Collaborative Robot Technology Based on On-Device AI Semiconductors” and “Development of Intelligent Welding Solutions Based on Collaborative Robots and AI.” The total R&D funding for the two projects is about 100 billion won, of which government grants account for about 70%. The company also plans to develop a next-generation collaborative robot hardware model and secure additional technologies through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and partnerships.
