[Financial News] The cast for the Korean engagement of the musical 'Hamilton: An American Musical,' which sparked 'Hamilton fever' on Broadway, has been revealed. Jason Arrow, who played lead character 'Alexander Hamilton' for four years on the Australia and international tours, and Jay Perry, who won a Best Actor award for his role as 'Aaron Burr' in the West End, are among those set to meet Korean audiences.
According to production company S&Co on the 29th, Jason Arrow, who plays Hamilton in this production, performed the same role in the 2021 Australian premiere and the international premiere production. Jay Perry, who plays Aaron Burr, Hamilton's rival, performed the role in the West End production of 'Hamilton: An American Musical' and won Best Actor in a Musical at the 2025 Black British Theatre Awards, which honor the achievements of Black British performing artists.
The 'Aaron Burr' he portrays is a war hero of the American Revolutionary War who, consumed by envy and hatred of Hamilton, his political rival, challenged him to a duel while serving as vice president.
Nicola Espallardo, who has appeared in the West End productions of 'Hamilton: An American Musical' and 'Wicked,' among others, has been cast as Angelica Schuyler. They will be joined onstage by actors who have appeared in various productions, including on Broadway and the West End, in Australia, and on North American, UK and international tours, as well as newly joining cast members.
Director Thomas Kail said, "We had the special opportunity to select exceptionally talented actors from around the world," and, "Every actor has the talent, ability and human depth to make the production shine even brighter." He added, "Audiences will get to see a performance featuring these actors together onstage for the first time."
'Hamilton: An American Musical' tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the Treasury, who laid the foundations of the financial system. Based on Ron Chernow's biography 'Alexander Hamilton,' it follows the journey of a man who rose to the pinnacle of power through talent and ambition amid the turmoil of the founding of the United States.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, an American composer, playwright and actor, wrote the book, lyrics for 46 songs and music over seven years. The score blends hip-hop and rap with jazz, R&B and traditional Broadway musical styles. Political debates unfold as rap battles, while the characters' personalities and positions are expressed through different kinds of music. In 2016, the musical received a record 16 Tony Award nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical. It has also won Grammy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize and the UK's Olivier Awards.
Meanwhile, premier tickets offering access to VIP seats during the opening weeks of the Busan and Seoul engagements go on sale on November 11. The show will run at Busan's Dream Theater from December 17 through January 16 next year, then at the Grand Theater of the Sejong Center in Seoul from January 21 through March 20 next year.
