[Financial News] Hana Financial Group’s social value generated through environmental, social and governance (ESG) management last year amounted to 6.8636 trillion won when converted into monetary terms. That was up 24% from the previous year, as the group expands social value creation through its core financial business, including inclusive finance and climate finance.
According to financial industry sources on the 29th, Hana Financial Group has published its 2025 ESG Impact Report, which details these results. Since 2021, the group has measured and disclosed the monetary value of the impact its ESG activities have had on society.
The report analyzed the ESG performance of 523 initiatives carried out by 15 affiliates and six foundations within the group.
Hana Financial Group generated a total ESG impact of 6.8636 trillion won last year, up 24% from 5.5359 trillion won the previous year. The number of initiatives included in the measurement also rose from 468 in 2024 to 523.
By category, the figures were 302 billion won for the environment (E), 3.4764 trillion won for society (S), and 3.0852 trillion won for governance (G) and economic contribution.
The social value generated through inclusive finance reached 1.4107 trillion won. Low-income finance and support for vulnerable groups accounted for the largest share, at 1.2998 trillion won. Other contributions included 20.7 billion won in financial support for small businesses, 20.1 billion won in business and capability support for small businesses, and 70.1 billion won in improved access to financial services. These figures reflect the monetary value of savings on financial costs through preferential interest rates and debt restructuring, as well as improved access to financial services.
The group also made progress in climate finance and growth-support finance. Financial support for renewable energy generation projects created 205.7 billion won in social value, while representative cases in growth-support finance—including liquidity provision to export supply-chain companies and investment in innovative startups—recorded an impact of 62.3 billion won.
In social contribution, support for childcare, including the construction of daycare centers and caregiving services, generated an impact of 306 billion won. The group also measured the results of initiatives to create social jobs, including support for youth entrepreneurship, reemployment for middle-aged and older people, and independent living for people with disabilities.
Hana Financial Group plans to expand social value creation, focusing on productive and inclusive finance. Through its “Growth for All” project, the group plans to provide a total of 100 trillion won over the five years through 2030, including 84 trillion won for productive finance and 16 trillion won for inclusive finance. The plan is to support the growth of national strategic industries and innovative companies while easing the financial burden on vulnerable groups.
A Hana Financial Group official said, “We went beyond simply measuring the amount of money deployed and precisely assessed the real changes our core financial business brought to the real economy and society as a whole. We will continue to expand sustainable social value creation based on the results of our measurements.”
