[Financial News] MUSINSA is operating an artificial intelligence (AI)-based image search service. The aim is to improve customer convenience by expanding search beyond text to include images.
According to industry sources on the 29th, MUSINSA recently introduced its image search service, ‘MUSINSA Lens.’ Users can upload a photo using the lens icon in the search bar, and AI will recognize the products in the image and find identical or similar items on MUSINSA Store. The service focuses on major categories such as outerwear and shoes. Users can search based on visual details such as mood, color, and silhouette.
MUSINSA Lens uses an AI model developed by the company’s in-house tech team. MUSINSA developed the service by training one model to find products in photos and another to assess visual similarity. It can recognize up to eight products in a single photo. Users can also share the original photo and the results with others.
Starting with this service, MUSINSA plans to refine its in-house image-recognition AI model to improve search accuracy. It will expand the technology’s application to a range of services and is also pursuing plans to introduce image search on 29CM.
MUSINSA is strengthening its AI-powered product discovery features. ‘AI Trend Curation,’ launched last June, recommends products based on fashion and beauty trends. The goal is to reduce online shopping fatigue by suggesting key product categories not only to users who open the app with a specific purchase in mind, but also to customers without a clear intention to buy. It also launched a dedicated ChatGPT app to improve accessibility for AI users.
Other fashion platforms are also moving quickly to expand their AI services. ABLY offers services centered on an AI-powered product recommendation algorithm, including ‘AI Try-On,’ which lets users see how clothes look when virtually worn. Zigzag, operated by Kakao Style, runs ‘Zigzag Lens,’ which finds similar products when users upload a photo. SSF.com, operated by Samsung C&T Fashion Group, is also enhancing its image search service.
A fashion industry official said, “The shopping environment is changing rapidly as fashion platforms use AI not only to offer personalized product recommendations but also to make it easier for customers to search directly using images.”
