[Financial News] The drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo will meet audiences as an original musical for a large theater about four years and six months after it became popular as a TV series.
According to Lotte Cultureworks on the 29th, the musical Extraordinary Attorney Woo will be presented in partnership with performance producer Live at Ticketlink 1975 Theater from January 16 to February 6, 2027.
The original is a drama about Woo Young-woo, a rookie lawyer on the autism spectrum, who grows as she solves cases from her own perspective and in her own way. Its story, which embraces the values of diversity and coexistence, earned the highest ratings in ENA’s history and also gained popularity overseas through Netflix.
Lotte Cultureworks, which secured the musical rights through a business agreement with the original production company AStory Co., Ltd., is co-developing the show with Live, the company behind Fan Letter, Marie Curie and other productions.
The two companies are preparing the production with overseas expansion in mind from the development stage. Kang Byeong-won and Kim Ha-jin are writing the book, Kim Hye-seong is composing the music, Kim Tae-hyung is directing, and Oh Pil-young is designing the set. The production was selected for the 2026 Large-Scale Musical Showcase Support Program, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Arts Management Service.
The production will preserve the original’s characters and emotional tone while depicting how people who are different from one another broaden their understanding and learn to live together. It will use orchestral music and stage video to portray Woo Young-woo’s inner world.
Yoon Se-in, head of the Live Business Division at Lotte Cultureworks, said, “We are working to create a moving and distinctive stage that conveys a message of coexistence through a protagonist who lives in the world at a different pace and rhythm from others.”
Live CEO Kang Byeong-won said, “By adding the emotion that only music and the stage can convey to the original’s warm perspective, we will create a large-scale original musical that audiences around the world can love for a long time.”
Meanwhile, the original drama’s global success led to a remake. On the 19th, the Japanese remake of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, titled Extraordinary Attorney Minami (Minamida Minami Is a Natural-Born Lawyer), premiered in Japan.
