【Financial News Jeju = Jeong Yong-bok】 Jeju Province has launched a working-level cooperation framework to review the budget execution, management innovation, and safety management tasks of 17 local public institutions every month. The participants also discussed ways to draw on the capabilities of each institution in efforts to attract public institutions to Jeju as part of the government’s second relocation to regional areas and to host the 2028 G20 Summit in Jeju.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 29th, the First Jeju Public Institution Management Accountability Officers’ Cooperation Meeting was held the previous day at Tamna Hall in the provincial government office. Attendees included Yang Je-yun, head of Jeju Province’s Planning and Coordination Office, as well as heads of departments responsible for overseeing public institutions and management department heads from each institution.
The meeting follows up on the First Public Institution Accountability and Innovation Meeting, attended on September 23 by Jeju Governor Wi Seong-gon and the heads of 17 local public institutions. It focused on checking how the management innovation and safety management tasks proposed by each institution at the time were being carried out in actual operations.
Jeju Province holds the Accountability and Innovation Meeting, attended by institution heads, every two months to discuss major policies and the direction of innovation. The Management Accountability Officers’ Cooperation Meeting, attended by working-level officials, is held monthly to review progress on each task and cooperation between departments.
At the first working-level meeting, participants shared updates on each institution’s responsible management and innovation tasks and measures to strengthen safety management. They also reviewed budget execution for major projects and agreed to identify collaborative projects that could draw on public institutions’ expertise for the ninth popularly elected provincial administration’s pledge projects.
The government’s second relocation of public institutions to regional areas and the bid to host the G20 Summit were also discussed as matters for joint action. Jeju Province has designated the Korea Racing Authority, Korea Airports Corporation, and Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, among others, as priority targets to attract to Jeju, and is campaigning with the central government and the institutions concerned to bring them to Jeju. However, the institutions to be relocated and their destination regions will be determined in accordance with the government’s relocation plan.
Jeju is also competing with Incheon, Busan, North Gyeongsang Province, and Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, among others, to host the 2028 G20 Summit. The province is reviewing its readiness, including meeting and accommodation facilities, the airport, and security and safety, as it prepares for the government’s host-city selection process.
The meeting also provided guidance on standards for handling common administrative tasks, including updating public institution work guidelines and settling contributed funds. The settlement process checks whether funding provided by local governments to public institutions was used for its designated purposes and in accordance with the applicable standards.
Yang Je-yun, head of Jeju Province’s Planning and Coordination Office, said, “Close cooperation and implementation at the working level are essential for public institutions’ innovation to produce results,” adding, “We will strengthen the ongoing cooperation framework between the province and public institutions to resolve major issues swiftly.”
