According to financial industry sources on the 29th, the Saemaul Geumgo Regional Hope Sharing Foundation is running the “MG Safe Box Support Project” in partnership with G Foundation, an international development cooperation NGO. The project was launched to ease the financial burden of hygiene products for girls and female adolescents and help them maintain stable daily lives.
Last month, the foundation delivered safe boxes worth 210 million won to 1,200 recipients. The boxes contained six months’ worth of feminine hygiene products and grants that recipients could use to buy underwear themselves, taking their growth stage and individual needs into account.
In particular, the underwear grants allowed recipients to choose products themselves based on their growth stage, physical characteristics and preferences. The aim was to move away from standardized material assistance, respect children’s and adolescents’ right to make their own choices, and make the support more effective.
The safe boxes and their inner pouches were made with the pro bono contribution of artist Mingming Si.
Kim In, chair of the Saemaul Geumgo Foundation, said, “Beyond providing necessary items, it is important to help children and adolescents grow up healthy by allowing them to decide for themselves what they need. We will continue to pay attention to the diverse needs of our neighbors and pursue social contribution activities that bring positive change to everyday life.”
Park Chung-gwan, head of G Foundation, said, “I hope this project will provide practical help to girls and female adolescents who, because of financial hardship, cannot afford enough of the hygiene products they need in their daily lives.”
