【Financial News, Daegu = Kim Jang-wook】Daegu City has launched a major push to promote Daegu tourism in Shanghai, Qingdao and Hong Kong, China, along direct air routes.
Daegu City and the Tourism Division of the Daegu Cultural Arts Promotion Agency held tourism promotion briefings for Daegu in Shanghai, Qingdao and Hong Kong, China, from the 26th to the 29th, and conducted local marketing to attract tourists from Greater China, including exploring ways to cooperate with local airlines and the travel industry.
The local marketing campaign was launched to raise awareness of Daegu tourism amid recent growth in demand for travel to Korea from Greater China, and to attract new visitors by developing tourism products linked to direct flights to Daegu International Airport.
Hwangbo Ran, head of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said, “I hope this will provide an opportunity to promote Daegu’s appeal in the Greater China tourism market and strengthen cooperation with the local tourism industry,” and stressed, “We will continue to build on the networks established locally to develop practical tourism products and achieve results in attracting tourists.”
According to the city, tourism promotion briefings for Daegu were held for tourism industry representatives, including local travel agencies and airlines, in Shanghai on the 26th, Qingdao on the 28th and Hong Kong on the 29th. The briefings introduced major attractions in Daegu and a range of tourism offerings, including food, shopping and festivals.
Business consultations between regional tourism businesses participating in the event and the local travel industry also created opportunities to cooperate on developing new tourism products and attracting visitors.
In particular, officials visited the Korea Tourism Organization’s Shanghai branch, Qingdao office and Hong Kong branch, as well as major local airlines and global online travel platforms (OTAs), to hold working-level discussions on promoting tourism in Daegu.
Officials visited the Shanghai headquarters of global online travel platform Trip.com (Ctrip) and discussed details of a planned discount promotion on air tickets for Greater China routes in November and December. They also agreed to expand cooperation, including by continually identifying joint marketing projects for Daegu tourism products through online platforms.
In Qingdao, officials also shared information with representatives of Qingdao Airlines on the operating status of the Daegu–Qingdao direct route and market conditions, and explored ways to attract inbound passengers and boost the route by linking airline route support with tourism marketing.
In Hong Kong, officials conducted sales calls with HK Express and major local travel agencies that operate tour packages for visitors to Korea. They discussed ways to secure tourism demand to ensure stable operation of the Daegu–Hong Kong direct route and boost sales of Daegu tourism products, and laid the groundwork for cooperation on future joint marketing and the development of new tourism products.
