[Financial News] A publicly offered fund has been launched that selects high-quality companies with competitive strengths and sound finances in global markets and concentrates its investments in 30–40 stocks. Rather than short-term market trends, it seeks long-term excess returns based on companies’ earnings-generating capabilities and cash flows.
Korea Investment Management Co., Ltd. said on the 29th that it had launched the Korea Investment Morgan Stanley Global Opportunity Fund. It has been sold exclusively through Korea Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. since the 26th, and investors can subscribe even after the fund’s initial establishment.
The fund invests indirectly in the Morgan Stanley Global Opportunity Fund, managed by Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM). Investors can choose among a won-hedged class (H), an unhedged class (UH), and a U.S. dollar class (USD), depending on their investment preferences.
The underlying fund is a publicly offered fund established in Luxembourg in 2010. As of the end of August, it had net assets of about $12.2 billion, equivalent to approximately KRW 16.7 trillion. Christian Huh, a portfolio manager with 25 years of experience, and the global investment team are responsible for the investment strategy.
Based on bottom-up research, the fund analyzes return on equity (ROE), free cash flow (FCF), financial structure and other factors to invest in 30–40 high-quality global companies. As of the end of the first half of this year, its portfolio is built around five growth themes: AI infrastructure, companies applying AI, demand-intensive companies, financial integration platforms, and companies centered on brands and intellectual property (IP).
Choi Ji-woon, a senior manager in the Global Strategy Management Department at Korea Investment Management Co., Ltd., said, “As global uncertainty grows, it has become more important to select high-quality companies with monopolistic pricing power and structural barriers to entry, rather than focus on short-term market themes or fads.” He added, “This product enables domestic investors to access Morgan Stanley’s research capabilities and concentrated portfolio through a publicly offered fund.”
