[Financial News] Jung Sung-ho, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker regarded as a key figure in the pro-Lee Jae Myung camp, has called on President Lee Jae Myung to scale back his social media activity and urged caution over the ruling party’s planned parliamentary investigation into Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae. Voices within the ruling camp are calling for a slower pace over the president’s direct involvement in current issues and the ruling party’s pressure on the judiciary.
According to political sources on the 29th, Jung appeared on SBS Radio the previous day and said of President Lee’s use of social media, “I think it might be better to cut back a little.” Commenting on the president’s frequent social media activity, Jung said, “Ruling party lawmakers should speak actively about the president’s policy priorities and issues of concern, and government ministers should also make their voices heard. But things aren’t moving forward quickly, and communication with the public isn’t going well, so the president seems to be stepping in directly,” adding, “If ministers and lawmakers play an active role, the president’s activity will naturally decrease.”
Nevertheless, he also indirectly suggested that the president should post less frequently, saying, “If the president states his own opinions directly, wouldn’t it be difficult to get support of 50% or more?”
In addition, he expressed opposition to the Democratic Party of Korea’s planned parliamentary investigation into Chief Justice Cho. Jung said, “Parliamentary investigations generally start with a bang and end with a whimper,” adding, “The public saw the previous parliamentary investigation into the prosecution’s fabricated indictment of President Lee, too. Shouldn’t we proceed more cautiously?”
