[Financial News] Crypto asset exchange Peurabaeng has suffered asset losses worth 100 million won in a hack, it has emerged. Amid a series of hacking incidents in the financial sector, including at crypto asset exchanges, this is the first time actual asset losses have been confirmed.
According to the crypto asset industry on the 29th, Peurabaeng said on the 26th that it had recently suffered a security breach caused by unauthorized external access. It reported the incident to the relevant authorities and is investigating its cause and scale.
Peurabaeng reportedly detected abnormal withdrawals from the exchange’s hot wallet on the 24th. It activated its emergency response system and discovered a security vulnerability during a full inspection. The affected assets are reportedly worth about 100 million won.
Use of the service has been temporarily suspended. Peurabaeng plans to determine the exact amount of affected assets and cover the full amount with company funds.
This hack appears to be a separate incident from the one financial authorities announced on the 14th, when they said hacking incidents had occurred at Streami Inc., the operator of GOPAX, and Peurabaeng in the crypto asset sector.
Meanwhile, on the 27th, a hacking incident targeting Bithumb’s internal systems led to the leak of personal information belonging to executives and employees. The Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), and the Financial Security Institute have begun an on-site investigation.
