[Financial News] Safety supplies, including fire extinguishers, were provided to residents near Chiaksan in Wonju, Gangwon State, to help prevent autumn wildfires. A campaign was also held to inform hikers during the fall foliage season about fire prevention rules and collect flammable trash from trails.
According to Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association on the 29th, the association held a joint wildfire prevention campaign on the 28th near Guryongsa Temple in Chiaksan National Park with the Forest Aviation Headquarters, the Chiaksan National Park Office of the Korea National Park Service, and Kia’s Special Business Division. A total of 66 officials from the four organizations took part.
Participants set up an information booth near the Guryongsa Temple parking lot and advised hikers not to carry ignition sources and to refrain from burning anything near forested areas. They also distributed wildfire prevention supplies produced with Kia’s support.
Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association delivered safety kits containing smoke-protection towels, fire extinguishers, emergency flashlights, safety gloves, and emergency whistles to vulnerable households and village residents in forest-adjacent areas, including Socho-myeon in Wonju. It also distributed safety supplies to hikers to help them prepare for emergencies on the trail.
They then carried out a cleanup along the trail from the Guryongsa Temple parking lot to the ticket office, collecting cigarette butts, flammable trash, and discarded glass bottles.
The Forest Service has announced that this year’s autumn wildfire watch period will run for 45 days, from November 1 through December 15. Local governments may adjust the period based on weather conditions and local circumstances.
“During the dry autumn season, even a small spark can grow into a major disaster, making thorough advance preparation and community-level awareness essential,” said Shin Hoon, secretary-general of Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. “We will provide focused support to areas vulnerable to wildfires and strengthen prevention efforts on the ground.”
