[Financial News] K-Whistle, an outsourced internal whistleblowing system, is helping financial firms revamp their internal reporting systems in line with financial regulators’ push to strengthen compliance reporting frameworks in the small and mid-sized financial sector. The plan is to support firms in putting these systems into practice with features covering the full compliance reporting process, from receiving anonymous reports and protecting whistleblowers to follow-up communication and reward payments.
According to industry sources on the 29th, the Financial Supervisory Service announced on the 14th six core principles for a standardized compliance reporting framework targeting savings banks, mutual finance institutions and specialized credit finance firms. Key measures include standardizing operating guidelines, expanding the scope of reports, strengthening whistleblower protections, expanding rewards and support, clarifying responsibilities for reports, and conducting ongoing reviews and training.
The key elements of the plan are to expand eligibility to include former employees and people outside the organization, and to allow reports in advance, before violations occur. It will fully introduce anonymous reporting channels and allow reports to be submitted through lawyers, while strengthening protections such as confidentiality for whistleblowers and a ban on adverse treatment. The maximum reward will be raised to 1 billion won, and a new assistance fund will provide support for medical and legal expenses.
K-Whistle supports the establishment of these systems through an outsourced anonymous reporting channel that provides customized pages for each financial institution. In addition to receiving reports, the channel can post compliance reporting guidance, questions and answers (Q&A), and declarations of commitment to compliance management by company representatives, helping employees and people outside the organization understand the reporting procedures and system.
It also offers features to support communication after an anonymous report is submitted. If a reporter signs up for response notifications, they are notified by text message or email when the person handling the case posts a response or completes processing. This helps reduce cases in which fact-finding is interrupted because reporters miss additional questions from case handlers, and supports continued follow-up.
K-Whistle also holds a patent related to the anonymous payment of rewards. The method helps ensure that a reporter’s identity is not disclosed to their affiliated institution during the payment process.
It also offers features that use artificial intelligence (AI) to support the handling of reports. K-Whistle’s “AI Assistant” reviews and analyzes reports to provide reference materials on key details, risk factors, review priorities and possible actions, and helps draft responses to be sent to reporters. Case handlers are responsible for verifying the facts, making final decisions and responding.
The institute plans to provide the remaining two months of service in 2026 free of charge when institutions sign contracts for service in 2027, so that even institutions that have not secured a budget this year can respond to the requirements without difficulty.
