[Financial News] A student who suffered serious injuries, including an orbital fracture, in a school violence incident was still placed in the same class as the perpetrators and has been unable to attend school for a month and a half, suffering extreme distress. Amid this situation, the school principal reportedly defended the perpetrators, saying, “They can be taught well until they graduate and used as bodyguards,” sparking controversy.
A post titled “I suffered an orbital fracture due to school violence, but the perpetrators are still attending the same class” was recently shared on the online community Bobaedream.
According to the post, the victim was subjected to school violence last September and suffered an orbital fracture, breaking the bone around one eye. As a result, vision in one eye declined from 1.0 to 0.6, and the student also began showing symptoms of tics.
However, with no class change or separation measures in place, three of the five students identified as perpetrators are reportedly still attending the same class as the victim. Afraid of having to face them again, the victim has been unable to attend school for a month and a half.
Amid this situation, the school principal fueled the controversy by saying of the perpetrators, “They can be taught well until they graduate and used as bodyguards.”
In response to an inquiry about separation measures, the school said, “The school violence committee has not made a decision on separation, so no separate action is being taken. However, if the victim’s guardian requests separation or another alternative, it can be arranged after consultation, by decision of the principal.” The school reportedly added, “If you have any further questions, please file a formal complaint.”
People online who read the post were outraged, saying that no protective measures at all were being taken for the victim.
In particular, they reacted to the principal’s remarks by saying, “The police have to be notified for the school and education office to take action,” “Shouldn’t the principal be fired first?” “Everyone should find out which school this is,” and “I can’t believe someone like that is a principal.”
It was also criticized as a problem that the school violence committee had made no decision and that the victim and the alleged perpetrators remained in the same class.
People online expressed outrage, saying, “How can the school violence committee not even be convened in a situation like this?” “The perpetrators should be suspended too,” and “This is the reality of schools in South Korea. The perpetrators carry on at school just fine while the victim hides away...”
