[Financial News] Gains among semiconductor heavyweights, driven by SK Hynix’s earnings growth and expanded shareholder returns, continued in early trading on the 29th ahead of Samsung Electronics’ detailed third-quarter results announcement.
According to the Korea Exchange (KRX), as of 9:30 a.m. that day, SK Hynix was trading at 1.57 million won, up 5.58% from the previous trading day. SK Hynix posted its highest-ever quarterly results the day before and saw its share price surge more than 10% after announcing an additional shareholder-return plan worth 60 trillion won.
SK Square was also up 49,000 won (5.32%) from the previous day, trading at 970,000 won.
At the same time, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. was trading at 246,000 won, up 1.65%. It is also set to announce detailed results for the third quarter that day.
The market expects the semiconductor boom, driven by the expansion of AI infrastructure, to continue, with the Device Solutions (DS) Division alone having generated nearly 110 trillion won in companywide operating profit.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities Co., Ltd., noted, “SK Hynix’s conference call provided an opportunity to turn market sentiment around, so at Samsung Electronics’ conference call today (the 29th), key points to watch will include the scale of long-term supply agreements (LTAs), conditions for price negotiations, and the status of mid- to long-term volume sales.”
She added, “We should watch to see whether this can further restore confidence in the semiconductor industry’s future earnings and clarify the direction of shareholder returns, including increased cash dividends.”
