Heating appliances fly off shelves in sudden cold snap; electric heater sales surge 170%

[Financial News] Demand for heating appliances such as electric heaters and electric mats is surging as a sudden cold snap sends temperatures plunging.
According to industry sources on the 29th, Lotte Hi-Mart's sales from the 21st to the 27th of heaters, including electric heaters and radiators, and heated bedding products, including electric blankets, electric mats and hot-water mats, rose by about 40% and 70%, respectively, compared with the previous week (the 14th to the 20th).
In particular, as high prices and the burden of electricity bills grow, localized heating products that warm only the space needed, rather than the entire home, are gaining popularity. During the same period, sales of electric heaters, which directly warm the surrounding space, rose by about 170%, while sales of carbon heating mats at least doubled.
To prepare for peak demand for heating appliances in winter, Lotte Hi-Mart will hold discount events throughout November on a range of winter appliances, including heaters, electric blankets and mats, and humidifiers. With about half of annual heating-appliance sales concentrated in November and December, the company plans to offer related products at reasonable prices to capture customer demand early. In particular, most products in the heater, heated bedding and humidifier categories will be covered by an extended warranty service, providing five years of free after-sales service.
Heaters will be discounted, with a focus on popular products from major brands such as SHINIL ELECTRONICS CO., LTD., Cuckoo Electronics Co., Ltd. and K-Page. Popular electric blankets and heating mats from various brands will also be offered at special prices, and customers who purchase multiple items together will receive additional discounts.
Park Jeong-hwan, head of Lotte Hi-Mart's Living and Kitchen Appliances Division, said, “With cold wave alerts recently issued in most parts of the country, the number of customers looking for heating appliances has risen sharply.” He added, “We will offer a range of energy-efficient and safe products at reasonable prices, along with benefits such as extended after-sales service warranties.”
