[Financial News] Marking 10 years since entering Mongolia, Emart is stepping up its push into the local retail market by diversifying its business model with large-format stores, small and medium-sized stores, and No Brand specialty stores.
According to industry sources on the 29th, Emart opened its 7th store in Mongolia that day at UG Arena, a sports and cultural complex in Ulaanbaatar. Next month, it will open an 8th store at Ulaanbaatar Department Store, in a key commercial area of the city. No Brand specialty stores, which entered the market for the first time this year, are also slated to expand to seven locations by year-end.
The 7th store is Emart Mongolia’s third medium-sized store, occupying approximately 3,272 square meters on the first floor of UG Arena’s retail complex. UG Arena hosts sports events such as basketball and volleyball, as well as concerts, performances, and exhibitions. Large apartment complexes and office buildings are clustered nearby.
Reflecting the characteristics of the area, Emart designed the 7th store as a family-friendly destination where customers can do their grocery shopping, dine, and enjoy leisure activities in one place. With groceries at its core, it puts K-food and No Brand products front and center, and features a meal-kit section, a liquor store, and shops selling cut fruit and freshly squeezed drinks. It has also expanded its range of sports apparel and equipment to cater to visitors to the sports facilities.
The store will also house outlets for Korean food and beverage brands, as well as stores specializing in fashion, cosmetics, healthcare, and lifestyle services. A rest area of approximately 83 square meters has been set up in the center, allowing shoppers to shop, eat, and relax in one place.
No Brand specialty stores opened their first location in Mongolia in July and added a second early this month. The company plans to expand the chain to seven locations by year-end.
Kang Young-seok, who is in charge of Emart’s overseas business, said, “Building on the trust and know-how we have built up over 10 years in Mongolia, we are successfully expanding our business. We will continue to further strengthen our dominance in Mongolia’s retail market.”
