[Financial News] A claim has emerged in connection with an incident at Wondang Station on Seoul Subway Line 3 in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, in which a male station employee in his 30s wielded a weapon against a female colleague, seriously injuring her. The victim had reportedly been afraid of the alleged attacker even before the incident and had repeatedly asked Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to keep them apart at work.
According to JTBC and other outlets on the 29th, at around 12:30 p.m. the previous day, at the station office at Wondang Station in Deogyang-gu, Goyang City, A, a KORAIL station employee in his 30s, wielded a weapon against B, a superior in the same department.
B suffered serious injuries to her neck, legs and other areas and was taken to hospital unconscious. She reportedly regained consciousness in the early hours of the 29th after emergency surgery.
After nearby employees subdued A, police who responded to the call arrested him as a suspect caught in the act.
B’s husband, C, told JTBC, “The perpetrator was impossible to work with, doing absolutely nothing no matter what was asked of him, and everyone who worked with them knew this. My wife repeatedly asked that he be transferred to another station or, at the very least, that their shifts not overlap, but I understand that her requests were not granted.” He added, “The incident happened just as (my wife) was even considering quitting her job.”
The KakaoTalk messages B sent to an acquaintance before the incident reportedly included statements expressing anxiety, such as, “I’m scared; I’m not sure how to deal with (the perpetrator,” and, “He came to our station (Wondang Station) because other stations didn’t want to take him.”
C claimed that A had prepared a weapon, such as a hiking knife, in advance and brought it with him and attacked B, striking her all over her body dozens of times.
There was no record of any reports to 112 about stalking or similar issues between the two.
Police plan to investigate whether the crime was premeditated and establish the exact motive, among other things, before turning the case over to the Railroad Special Judicial Police.
