[Financial News] Busan will introduce companies in the Seoul metropolitan area to the new growth potential and investment opportunities of “Busan, the Maritime Capital.”
Busan City said it would hold its 2026 investment attraction briefing for companies in the Seoul metropolitan area at the Conrad Seoul hotel on the morning of the 29th, with about 100 people in attendance, including Mayor Chun Jae-soo, Hong Yong-jun, CEO of Coupang Logistics Services, businesspeople, and officials from relevant organizations such as shipping-related associations.
The event will proceed in the following order: presentation of commendation plaques to companies that have contributed to investment attraction, signing of investment memorandums of understanding (MOUs), investment pitches, and an overview of the city’s investment support programs.
The city will sign investment MOUs totaling KRW 163 billion with three companies, including Coupang Logistics Services, LS Power Solution, and ReadyPost. The investments are expected to create 776 new jobs in total.
Coupang Logistics Services, a delivery-service subsidiary of Coupang, plans to invest KRW 42 billion in Nam-gu, Busan, to build a smart logistics center spanning about 43,000 square meters and hire 670 people. The investment is intended to upgrade its delivery services by combining logistics processing and delivery functions and incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The company aims to begin trial operations within the year.
LS Power Solution, a subsidiary of LS ELECTRIC, will invest about KRW 120 billion in Gangseo-gu, Busan, to build an additional production facility for ultra-high-voltage transformers and hire 88 new employees. The investment is intended to meet rising domestic orders and expanded exports to North America, and is expected to help strengthen the competitiveness of the region’s power equipment manufacturing industry.
ReadyPost, which operates “Chonghoe One-Stop,” an integrated online general-meeting and electronic-voting platform, plans to invest KRW 1 billion to establish a business site in Haeundae-gu, Busan, and hire 18 people. This will help expand its orders for urban redevelopment projects in Busan and strengthen its business base in the region.
The city will also present commendation plaques for contributions to investment attraction to five shipping companies, including HMM, SK Shipping, Heung-A Shipping Co., Ltd., and Panstar, which have contributed to the development of the shipping and logistics industries and strengthened Busan’s competitiveness in attracting investment.
Mayor Chun will make an investment pitch on the theme “The Future of Busan, the Maritime Capital.” He will highlight Busan’s strengths, including its world-class port and manufacturing base in the Southeast Region of Korea, and outline new business opportunities arising as finance and advanced technologies combine with shipping and logistics, amid the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the clustering of shipping companies.
The head of Busan City’s Economic Policy Office will then explain the investment environment, drawing on major industrial hubs and Opportunity Development Zones, and outline support programs suited to different types of corporate investment.
Mayor Chun said, “Investment by companies that sign MOUs will broaden Busan’s industrial base and further accelerate its growth. We will make Busan a business-friendly city and demonstrate through results that companies can grow even more by investing here.”
