[Financial News] A tourist accommodation facility of up to 23 stories will be built in Bukchang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.
On the 29th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said that a proposal reviewing the adequacy of infrastructure and other facilities around 130-1 Bukchang-dong, within the Bukchang District Unit Planning Zone, was approved as originally proposed at the previous day’s 10th meeting of the delegated subcommittee of the Seoul City Urban and Architecture Joint Committee.
The site is in a general commercial district near Seoul Metropolitan Government and Namdaemun Market. It is within a 10-minute walk of City Hall Station on Seoul Subway Lines 1 and 2 and Hoehyeon Station on Seoul Subway Line 4. Hotels and office and commercial facilities are clustered nearby.
Under the current building plan, a tourist accommodation facility with 256 rooms will be built around 130-1 Bukchang-dong, with three basement levels and 23 floors above ground. The planned floor-area ratio is 1,235%.
A cafeteria and lounge will be installed on the first floor and made accessible to the general public as well as hotel guests. Rooms will be located on the second floor and above to meet demand for tourist accommodation in downtown Seoul.
The review comprehensively assessed the adequacy of six infrastructure facilities: roads, parking, parks, green spaces, water supply and sewerage. In response, the plan is to secure as much publicly accessible space as possible, including publicly accessible open space. To improve wastewater pipes at the regional level, the improvement costs will be deposited into an escrow account set up separately by the city. Aging pipes near the site, including about 28 meters along Namdaemun-ro, are also set to be replaced.
Kim Chang-gyu, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Urban Space Bureau, said, “With the number of foreign tourists visiting Seoul surging, construction of this accommodation facility in Bukchang-dong will give a major boost to revitalizing tourism in the downtown area.” He added, “We will make the area an attractive place that is convenient for both tourists and residents to enjoy.”
