[Financial News] A total of 16 works were selected as winners in the ‘2026 Security Guardian Contest,’ held by the National Police Agency to raise public interest in national security.
The National Office of Investigation of the National Police Agency said it held the awards ceremony for the ‘2026 Security Guardian Contest’ at the National Police Agency headquarters on the 29th.
Now in its 19th edition, the Security Guardian Contest has been held since 2008 to highlight the importance of national security and raise public awareness of security issues. This year, entries were invited in two categories, video and poster, on the themes of ‘Promoting Reports to 113’ and ‘Latest Cybersecurity Threat Prevention Guidelines.’
The contest, which ran for about three months starting June 17, received a total of 931 entries. After preliminary and final judging involving experts in various fields, including university professors currently teaching and media writers, police selected 16 works: one Grand Prize, two Excellence Awards, five Merit Awards and eight Encouragement Awards.
The Grand Prize went to ‘A Hero for 50 Million, Protecting Everyday Life (HERO),’ a video submitted by Choi Ik-hwan. This year, the Grand Prize money was increased to 10 million won.
Choi said, “I created the work while thinking about how to make the 113 national security reporting hotline easy and approachable to learn about.” He added, “Taking part in the contest was also a meaningful experience that helped me realize the importance of national security. I will continue to spread the word among those around me about the importance of reporting security concerns to 113.”
‘Spotting Something Suspicious in Everyday Life in 3 Seconds’ was selected for the Excellence Award in the video category. The poster category also had winners, including recipients of the Excellence and Merit Awards.
Acting National Police Agency Commissioner Kim Jongcheol said, “This contest, which produces excellent works every year, is becoming an opportunity for the public and the police to share their thoughts and communicate under the common value of ‘security.’” He added, “I hope everyone will play an active role in their daily lives as ‘unsung heroes’ who make our society brighter.”
The winning works can be viewed on the official website of the ‘2026 Security Guardian Contest.’ The National Police Agency plans to use them in various internal and external promotional materials in the future.
