[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung emphasized at a dinner on the 28th with senior Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers with five or more terms that “the ruling party should show a responsible attitude that meets the public’s expectations not only in its policy achievements but also in its words and actions.”
Hong Ik-pyo, senior presidential secretary for political affairs at Cheong Wa Dae, said in a written briefing that President Lee had invited the senior lawmakers and thanked them for their hard work leading the party and the National Assembly.
President Lee urged the party and Cheong Wa Dae to communicate and cooperate closely to find practical solutions as hardships in people’s lives intensify. He also said he would reflect the experience and wisdom the senior lawmakers had gained over their long political careers in the administration of state affairs.
He stressed that the ruling party’s role becomes all the more important as people’s lives grow harder, and asked them to help reconcile diverse views within the party and support efforts to advance reform, improve people’s livelihoods and promote unity.
The lawmakers in attendance exchanged views and proposed policy measures on constitutional amendment and political reform; improving inter-Korean relations and promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula; the economy and people’s livelihoods; securing local government finances; and the party’s stability and unity.
President Lee said he would treat the attendees’ views as a valuable asset in governing and work together with them to deliver results to the public.
