[Financial News] Police have requested arrest warrants for two men suspected of abandoning a body in a residential neighborhood in Guro District, Seoul.
Police said on the 28th that Seoul Guro Police Station had requested arrest warrants that day for a man in his 60s, identified as A, and a man in his 80s, identified as B, on suspicion of abandoning a corpse and instigating its abandonment, respectively.
A is suspected of abandoning the body near a residential-area trash disposal site in Guro-dong, Guro District, on the 22nd, while B is suspected of instructing him to do so.
After receiving a report from a sanitation worker who found the body the previous day, police used CCTV footage and inquiries in the area to make emergency arrests of the two men and completed their initial questioning as suspects.
During questioning, B claimed that he had instructed that an object resembling a doll in a building he owned be thrown away, and that he had not known it was a body. A said he had suspected it might be a body but had only followed B’s instructions.
B owns a multi-family home in Guro District, and A was formerly a tenant in the building. A was found to have regularly helped B with tasks such as putting out the trash and to have looked up to him as if he were his father.
The body, wrapped in plastic and newspaper, had been left in the same place for five days. By the time it was found, it had begun to decompose and dry out, but no clear signs of homicide were visible externally.
Police identified the deceased but did not disclose the person’s identity. After conducting an autopsy, the National Forensic Service gave a verbal opinion that it would be difficult to determine the cause and time of death due to decomposition and other factors. The final autopsy findings are expected to be provided later.
