[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae held an emergency review meeting with relevant agencies on the 28th over a series of hacking incidents involving Bithumb, Daishin Securities and others, and reviewed the response and measures to prevent secondary harm.
Officials from the Financial Services Commission (FSC), the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), the Financial Security Institute and KISA attended the meeting, chaired by Song Gi-ho, third deputy director of the National Security Office.
The participating agencies reviewed the progress of investigations and measures taken in each incident, and discussed ways to prevent secondary harm, such as smishing and voice phishing that exploit leaked information. They also considered ways to inspect similar attack routes, including externally connected servers and in-house business systems.
The agencies agreed to share information about attacks and investigation findings in real time and coordinate their response going forward.
Deputy Director Song urged them to “make every effort to respond swiftly and prevent secondary harm, as hacking in the financial sector directly affects the public’s assets and trust in the financial system.” He added, “In particular, please do everything possible to strengthen security so that places with limited security resources, such as small financial firms, do not become security blind spots.”
The National Security Office will continue to review the status of measures with relevant agencies and consider further action as the situation changes. It urged the public to be especially cautious of calls and text messages impersonating financial companies and other organizations.
