[Financial News] An opportunity has been created to revisit the history of the June 1987 Democratic Uprising not as a grand political struggle, but through the lens of 'warm solidarity between a runaway boy and university students.'
The BK21 FOUR Education and Research Group in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Yonsei University announced on the 28th that it will hold a screening of director Kim Dae-hyun's documentary film 'Jeongdori' and a cine-talk event on November 6 at Oesol Hall on Yonsei University's Sinchon campus in Seoul.
The event was organized to take another look at the grassroots sense of community in which young people and university students of the time cared for one another, moving beyond the history of political victory. It is expected to evoke the emotional solidarity that existed behind major historical events while also offering insights into addressing the recent worsening of family breakdown and youth problems.
The film 'Jeongdori' tells the true story of a 14-year-old boy who left home to escape domestic violence in the spring of 1987 and stayed in the student council room at Korea University. Given the name 'Jeongdori' by the students, the boy lived like family with the university students, experienced the June Uprising, and later grew up to become a master of the janggu.
After the screening, director Kim Dae-hyun and audience members will have a chance to talk directly, with Yonsei University professor Baek Mun-im moderating. Participants will have in-depth discussions about the significance of individual lives amid historical events and the value of historical records.
A representative of the Education and Research Group in Yonsei University's Department of Korean Language and Literature said, "This screening will be an opportunity to reflect together on the point where literature, history and real life meet," adding, "Building on the discussions held that day, we will continue various research projects and programs in partnership with the local community."
