【Financial News, Jangseong = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】Jangseong County is pulling out all the stops to secure state funding for key projects that will change the county’s future and ensure they move forward smoothly.
According to Jangseong County on the 28th, County Governor Kim Han-jong and relevant officials met Rep. Jo In-cheol, a member of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, at the National Assembly that day to request state funding for pending projects. Kim and his delegation also delivered project proposals to the offices of lawmakers Ahn Do-geol and Kim Nam-guk and asked for their cooperation.
The five projects proposed by Jangseong County that day are: △construction of a northern access road to Advanced 3 District in the Gwangju Research and Development Special Zone △establishment of the National Turfgrass Research Institute △promotion of cultural education about Rose of Sharon, Korea’s national flower △construction of an integrated disaster preparedness center △renovation of the aging road bridge (Cheongun Overpass). The total amount of state funding requested is 8.54 billion won.
County Governor Kim Han-jong said, “I am visiting the National Assembly before next year’s budget review gets fully underway and working to ensure that local priorities are reflected in the review process,” adding, “As these five pending projects are essential to residents’ safety and Jangseong’s future growth, I will do everything I can until the National Assembly’s review is complete.”
First, one of the five pending projects, the “Northern Access Road to Advanced 3 District,” involves building a road connecting the district’s northern side to National Route 1. It is considered essential infrastructure that will facilitate the movement of goods between industrial and research and development sites. County Governor Kim requested 1.5 billion won for design services. On September 7, Kim had also met Minister of Planning and Budget Park Hong-keun to request that construction of the northern access road to Advanced 3 District and other projects be included in next year’s government budget.
The “National Turfgrass Research Institute” would be a national research institution responsible for turfgrass variety research, quality certification, and pest and disease management. Emphasizing that Jangseong, a major turfgrass-producing area in Korea, is the ideal location for the institute, County Governor Kim requested 400 million won for a feasibility study.
The “Promotion of Cultural Education about Our Flower, Rose of Sharon” project aims to run patriotism education and hands-on programs at Jangseong Rose of Sharon Park, which was selected as a “National Flower Rose of Sharon Landmark.” The county requested 140 million won in operating costs for the cultural education programs.
The “Integrated Disaster Preparedness Center” would bring together disaster-response resources currently dispersed across the region, including snow-removal and flood-control supplies and relief goods. County Governor Kim requested 5.8 billion won in state funding out of the project’s total cost of 6 billion won.
The “Cheongun Overpass Renovation Project” aims to ensure safe passage by repairing an aging bridge in the town center that received a C grade in a detailed safety inspection. The county requested state funding for the entire construction cost of 800 million won.
