[Financial News] With high prices persisting, Lotte Mart is launching a large-scale, two-week discount event focused on fresh foods, home meal replacements (HMR) and prepared foods.
According to industry sources on the 28th, Lotte Mart will hold its second-half “Mega Tongkeun” promotion from the 29th through the 11th of next month.
During the first week, from the 29th through the 4th of next month, discounts will focus on fresh foods such as Hanwoo, abalone and apples. All grade 1 Hanwoo products, selected specialty cuts and Wando abalone are among the items included in the promotion. New-season apples such as Fuji, Shinano Gold, Gamhong and Envy, as well as Jeju mandarins and mixed grains, will also be sold at a discount.
The event will also include prepared foods and convenience meals. Discounts will be offered on sushi, dakgangjeong and chicken, while frozen meal kits, frozen noodles and other frozen foods such as pizza, dumplings and pork cutlets will be discounted when bought in large quantities. The retailer said it had at least doubled the quantities of related products, taking into account the 40% year-on-year increase in home meal replacement sales during the first-half Mega Tongkeun promotion.
In the second week, beginning on the 5th of next month, the promotion will continue with discounted items switched to pork, flounder sashimi, oysters and early-season Jeju mandarins. Products specially planned for Lotte Mart will also be introduced.
Park Sang-wook, head of strategic marketing at Lotte Mart and Lotte Super, said, “To ease the increased strain on shoppers’ budgets caused by prolonged high prices, we have mobilized all our integrated sourcing capabilities to prepare large quantities and attractive prices.”
