【Financial News, Daegu = Kim Jang-uk, Staff Writer】“For regulatory innovation, the field must change.”
Daegu City successfully held the “2026 Public-Private Joint Workshop on Regulatory Innovation” on the 28th at the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, with key regulatory innovation stakeholders from the city, its districts and counties, and related agencies in attendance.
The workshop was organized to strengthen the capabilities of regulatory innovation officers and promote public-private cooperation. It featured, in order, an awards ceremony for the Regulatory Innovation Idea Contest, commendations for contributions to regulatory innovation, an expert lecture, and a regulatory innovation discussion.
Kim Dong-hyeok, director of the One-Stop Corporate Investment Center, said, “I hope this workshop will further strengthen public- and private-sector capabilities in regulatory innovation and help spread efforts to improve regulations with a focus on the field.” He emphasized, “We will continue to work closely across departments and draw on expert advice to deliver results that citizens and businesses can feel firsthand.”
At the expert lecture, Ji Yeong-rim, an administrative and regulatory affairs specialist who has served as a member of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, among other roles, and is the Defense Acquisition Program Administration’s representative ombudsman, spoke on “Regulatory Innovation Driven by the Field: Know-How and Best Practices in Practical Regulatory Reform.”
Ombudsman Ji pointed out that the success or failure of regulatory innovation ultimately depends on public officials taking concrete action on the ground. Ji emphasized that “public officials must go out into the field themselves and take action to bring about changes that citizens and businesses can feel,” and the point resonated deeply with attendees.
At the subsequent “Regulatory Innovation Discussion,” city and district and county officials and related experts gathered to share unreasonable regulatory difficulties identified in regional economic activity and citizens’ daily lives, and held in-depth discussions on practical ways to address them.
Earlier, an awards ceremony was held for the “Regulatory Innovation Idea Contest,” which was conducted nationwide last March and received a total of 212 proposals.
A ceremony was also held to present commendations to those who contributed to field-focused regulatory innovation. Nine people received commendations, including officials from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Medical Innovation Foundation who contributed to “Expanding the Product Range of Small-Scale Production Facilities in the High-Tech Medical Complex,” as well as employees of related agencies and public officials who took the lead in improving regulations.
Since the launch of its ninth popularly elected administration, the city has expanded and newly established its dedicated regulatory innovation organization at the division level. It has also launched a “Regulatory Advisory Group,” centered on private-sector experts, and a “Regulatory Coordination Group” to break down barriers between departments, dramatically strengthening its capacity to put regulatory innovation into practice.
