[Financial News] A complaint was eventually filed with police against a parent who repeatedly made malicious complaints and posted defamatory remarks targeting a homeroom teacher and principal at an elementary school in Gangwon Province.
According to the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education on the 28th, Gangwon Superintendent of Education Kang Sam-young filed a complaint against parent A with the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency on charges including defamation by spreading false information and insult under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, as well as threats and trespassing.
A is accused of repeatedly lodging unjustified complaints against B, the homeroom teacher of A’s child, since April, disrupting class management and educational activities.
In particular, A was found to have revealed B’s real name on social media (SNS) and online bulletin boards and spread false information related to class management.
During this process, A reportedly repeatedly posted not only profanities and defamatory remarks but also threatening statements.
Even after the regional Committee for the Protection of Teachers’ Rights decided on measures, A reportedly went to the school and violated educational activities, including by shouting at B in front of students.
In August and September, A is also accused of continuing to make unjustified demands of the principal and posting defamatory remarks containing profanities online.
As a result, B took special leave and then returned to school, but is reportedly still expressing anxiety and fear for personal safety.
The principal is in a similar situation. The principal is reportedly suffering mental anguish from the continued complaints and defamation and having difficulty running the school.
Judging the case to be serious, the provincial Office of Education sought legal advice from a lawyer specializing in teachers’ rights and from outside lawyers. Afterward, following deliberations by the provincial Committee for the Protection of Teachers’ Rights, it decided to file a criminal complaint against A.
Superintendent Kang said, “Because this is a case of a superintendent directly filing a complaint against a parent, I considered it carefully with a heavy heart. We could no longer stand by while the homeroom teacher and principal face difficulties not only in their educational work but also in their daily lives, and while students’ right to receive an education is being violated, so we decided to hold the parent strictly accountable.”
