According to Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association on the 28th, the aid was provided to protect the health of residents staying in shelters and help stabilize their living conditions as temperatures drop.
The supplies Hope Bridge delivered to the shelter that morning included 500 emergency relief kits, 130 winter clothing kits, 2,240 bottles of water, 110 blankets and 2,000 meals. The supplies were assembled mainly to provide warmth and meet daily needs, and are to be distributed to residents staying at the shelter.
Earlier, on the afternoon of the 27th—the day the fire broke out—Hope Bridge received an urgent request from the National Fire Agency and delivered 1,068 emergency supplies in 24 categories for on-site responders, including firefighters who worked through the night to extinguish the blaze.
The fire broke out at around 3:49 p.m. on the 27th in and around District 2 of Guryong Village. Combustible materials such as vinyl and plywood were densely packed, and strong winds compounded the danger, prompting the issuance of a Level 2 fire response. The blaze was completely extinguished at around 4:39 a.m. on the 28th, about 12 hours and 50 minutes later. Around 100 people from some 70 households were displaced.
Another fire broke out in Guryong Village on January 16, leaving 196 people from 126 households displaced. At the time, a special fundraising campaign was also held to help affected residents prepare to relocate and provide them with home appliances and furniture.
Shin Hoon, secretary-general of Hope Bridge, said, "We will work with local governments and others to ensure residents do not suffer from the cold or inconvenience while staying in temporary shelters, and will spare no effort to provide the support they need until they can return to their daily lives."
