[Financial News] After an announcement sought help finding an elementary school student who had not returned home late at night, apartment residents joined forces and safely found the child within 15 minutes.
Community at a 4,800-household complex quickly becomes a “child search party”

According to Financial News reporting on the 28th, an announcement was broadcast at around 10 p.m. on the 26th at an apartment complex in Geomdan-gu, Incheon, saying that an elementary school girl had not yet returned home. The large complex has about 4,800 households.
Right after the announcement, messages expressing concern for the child poured into the residents’ group chat, including “Oh dear, I hear she’s only in first grade” and “And it’s so cold out, too.” Some also posted messages about the late-night announcement, saying, “You have to understand in a situation like this.”
When the child’s whereabouts remained unknown, residents began leaving their homes one by one. One resident headed out, saying, “I’ll go walk around the apartment complex once for some exercise,” while another, who had a child at home, sent their husband instead.
In the group chat, residents shared the child’s description: a first grader wearing a red jacket and riding a pink bicycle. The child’s parents posted, “Thank you to everyone helping us search right now, and we’re sorry for the late hour.”
One resident reviewed CCTV footage of the complex’s playground on a wall pad and posted a frame showing someone who looked like the child. Witness accounts followed, including, “I saw a girl riding a bicycle around the middle of Complex 1.”
Resident finds the child and posts a photo... The whole neighborhood breathes a sigh of relief: “Thank goodness”

About 15 minutes after the announcement, at around 10:05 p.m., a resident found the child inside the complex and posted a photo. The parents confirmed it was their child. Messages of relief poured into the group chat, along with a post saying, “It really does take a whole neighborhood to raise a child.”
Resident A, who joined the search that day, is a father raising a 19-month-old son. A told Financial News, “We all feel the same when it comes to raising children. It may have been a short patrol for us, but for the parents who had lost their child, every second must have felt bleak,” recalling what happened.
He added, “I felt that if my child went missing and all the residents stepped up like this, it would be a real source of strength.”
A also shared the story on Threads, a social networking service (SNS). People who came across it responded, “It’s a relief they found the child, and neighbors who help are the best,” “This is the best side of an apartment community,” and “The neighbors are so warm-hearted; this is still a good place to live.”
