【Financial News, Gwangyang = Hwang Tae-jong, reporter】For just 3,000 won, visitors can tour major attractions in four cities and counties in the Seomjin River region, including Gwangyang City, Gokseong County, Gurye County and Hadong County, aboard the “Seomjin River Stay Tourist Attraction Shuttle Bus,” which will operate on a trial basis from October to December.
According to Gwangyang City on the 28th, the “Seomjin River Stay Tourist Attraction Shuttle Bus,” which connects major attractions in four cities and counties in the Seomjin River region—including Gwangyang City, Gokseong County, Gurye County and Hadong County—will run on a trial basis every Saturday and Sunday from October to December.
The project is part of tourism promotion initiatives under the Southern Region Wide-Area Tourism Development Plan. It aims to make it easier for tourists visiting the Seomjin River region to get around and to expand their trips to neighboring areas.
The four cities and counties in the Seomjin River region signed an agreement in 2021 and have since pursued cooperative regional tourism projects.
“Although the Seomjin River crosses administrative boundaries, it is a shared tourism resource, with nature, culture and everyday life flowing together,” said Lee Hyun-ju, head of Gwangyang City’s Tourism Division. “We will connect attractions scattered across each area by transport and turn trips focused on visiting individual places into journeys linking one region to another, ushering in the ‘Seomjin River tourism era,’” the division chief stressed.
The “Seomjin River Stay Tourist Attraction Shuttle Bus” operates local routes in each of the four cities and counties, and passengers can travel to attractions in other areas via transfer points. The fare is 3,000 won, and passengers can continue their trip by taking the next bus after visiting an attraction. There is no additional charge for transferring between routes.
Passengers can pay by transferring the fare to a dedicated account listed inside the bus or in cash. Wristbands are provided to passengers to facilitate transfers and connections between routes.
The Gwangyang route departs from Gwangyang Bus Terminal and connects Gwangyang Station, Seocheonbyeon-ro (Gwangyang Bulgogi Specialty Street), Jeonnam Museum of Art, Panorama Walk, Jungma Tourist Information Center and Jeong Byeong-uk House, among other stops. It runs three times a day, departing at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The 11:30 a.m. service extends to Gurye Bingurye Market, where passengers can transfer to the Gurye route.
The 9 a.m. service passes Jeong Byeong-uk House and returns to Gwangyang Bus Terminal at 12:40 p.m. The 11:30 a.m. service stops at Gurye Bingurye Market and arrives at the terminal at 4:20 p.m., while the 2 p.m. service passes Jeong Byeong-uk House and arrives at 5:40 p.m.
Tourism Division chief Lee Hyun-ju said, “I hope the shuttle bus will ease the burden of traveling between areas and make it easier for tourists to visit attractions in the Seomjin River region.” “We will continue to expand the foundations for regional tourism in cooperation with neighboring local governments,” the division chief said.
