[Financial News] A total of 79 individuals and groups who helped their neighbors through donations and volunteer work received the Community Chest of Korea Awards.
According to the Community Chest of Korea on the 28th, the previous day, the 2026 Community Chest of Korea Donor Value Night was held at KBS in Yeouido, Seoul. The event included the 13th Community Chest of Korea Awards ceremony and a recording of KBS's Open Concert Sharing Special.
Recipients were selected based on recommendations from 17 cities and provinces nationwide, with evaluations of cumulative donation amounts, length of participation, and social contribution activities. Contribution Awards and Happiness Awards were presented in three categories: material donations, personal service, and civic participation.
The Contribution Awards went to POSCO Gwangyang Works in the material donations category; Kim Tae-eok, head of the Nanuri Volunteer Association, in the personal service category; and the Maeumsarang Hospital Supporters' Association in the civic participation category.
Gwangyang Works has donated to local residents and social welfare facilities since 2005, and participates in efforts such as improving living conditions and disaster relief through its 48 talent volunteer groups.
For about 40 years, Kim has operated a free meal center using personal funds, and has participated in the Good Store giving program for 13 years. Three generations of Kim's family are active as Community Chest of Korea Sharing Leaders. Kim also helped establish the first Good Village by encouraging local residents to donate.
Good Store is a program for making regular donations of at least 30,000 won per month. In addition to self-employed business owners, small and medium-sized enterprises, academies, hospitals, and others can participate regardless of industry.
Using funds raised by hospital employees and outside donors, the Maeumsarang Hospital Supporters' Association has worked with the Community Chest of Korea for more than 20 years on welfare projects for people vulnerable to mental health issues and others.
The Happiness Award recipients included history instructor Tae-Sung Choi, chef Lee Yeon-bok, and actor Jeong Bo-seok. Some 800 people took part in the subsequent Open Concert recording, including award recipients, members of Honor Society—a group of major donors—and recurring donors.
At a donor talk, Shim Uri shared her reflections on continuing regular donations for 20 years, having started them when she got married. Yang Hee-eun, Baek Ji-young, La Poem, and others performed. The Open Concert Sharing Special recorded that day is scheduled to air on November 29 at 5:40 p.m.
Yoon Yeo-jun, chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, said, "I always keep in mind that each donor's generosity is a great force that sustains our society," adding, "I will work to ensure that this precious spirit brings hope to more of our neighbors."
