According to police on the 28th, the Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is questioning lawyer Kyung-ho Kim as a complainant. Kim filed a complaint against Han on charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights. Kim appeared at the Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit’s Yongsan office at around 10:20 a.m.
Kim filed a complaint against Han on the 11th.
The complainant’s side says police should investigate why a request for international mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, which police made to obtain evidence overseas during a 2022 investigation into allegations that Han’s daughter violated copyright law, was not relayed to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office and the Ministry of Justice.
In particular, they say it is necessary to determine whether Han, who was justice minister at the time, was involved in the process.
Related complainants were also questioned the previous day. On the 27th, the Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit summoned and questioned Ahn Jin-geol, head of the People’s Livelihood Economy Research Institute, and Oh Dong-hyun, standing representative of the Lawyers’ Group for Prosecutor Oversight. They had filed complaints against Han and investigators at the time on charges including abuse of authority and dereliction of duty.
Earlier, in May 2022, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency received and investigated a complaint concerning allegations that Han’s daughter had false credentials, but decided not to refer the case to prosecutors in December of the following year, citing lack of suspicion of criminal wrongdoing, among other reasons.
