【Financial News Jeonnam-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong, reporter】Baek Seung-ju, Deputy Mayor for Balanced Development of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City (Gwangju Special City), said on the 28th, “We will ensure the free school meal program runs without disruption.”
At a briefing on free school meals at the Muan government office that day, Deputy Mayor Baek Seung-ju said, “We will work closely with the education office so students can focus on school life with peace of mind, and we will make every effort to prevent problems with school meals.”
According to Gwangju Special City, the current free school meal program is operated with its budget shared by the Special City, autonomous districts and the education office.
To ensure the free school meal program runs without disruption, Gwangju Special City plans to include in its second supplementary budget bill this year's additional contribution to the program, which the Special City is required to provide, and support the education office after the city council reviews the budget.
Accordingly, free school meals at schools of all levels are expected to proceed without disruption this year.
Deputy Mayor Baek Seung-ju emphasized that “(the decision to support free school meals this time) reflects the city government's firm belief and sense of responsibility that, despite difficult fiscal conditions, there must be no disruption to students' health or the stable operation of school meals.”
