【Financial News Jeju = Jeong Yong-bok】 Jeju women entrepreneurs have signed an exchange agreement with the Seongdong Women Leaders’ Union and set out to expand interregional cooperation networks. The Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs, marking its second anniversary, also honored 19 people who contributed to women’s business activities and the association’s development.
According to the incorporated Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs on the 28th, an event marking its second anniversary was held the previous afternoon in the Iris Hall of the Astar Hotel in Jeju City, attended by members and other guests, including president Baek Hee-sun.
The event opened with a signing ceremony for an exchange agreement between the Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs and the Seongdong Women Leaders’ Union. The two organizations signed an agreement to promote exchanges and cooperation. The anniversary ceremony that followed included awards for people recognized for their contributions, the presentation of donations and sponsored goods, and introductions of new members.
The agreement is significant because it establishes a formal basis for Jeju women entrepreneurs to engage with women leaders in other regions. Attention will now turn to whether the cooperative relationship leads to practical activities, such as strengthening member companies’ management capabilities and facilitating business exchanges.
The Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs was founded on September 26, 2024. It was established to strengthen women entrepreneurs’ competitiveness and rights, nurture female talent, and support the participation of women whose careers have been interrupted in economic activity, among other aims.
Since its founding, the association has organized capacity-building forums on management, labor law and taxation, policy discussions, and community outreach projects. Last year, it signed a business agreement with the Jeju Immigration and Foreigners Office and held a charity bazaar involving women entrepreneurs.
The association is continuing its community service activities this year. On the 22nd, it donated 1 million won to Jeju Yeongji School for its school development fund. The donation, the association’s second after one made last year, will be used to support educational activities for students with disabilities.

At the anniversary ceremony, 19 people—including members and others who contributed to the association’s development—were named as recipients of awards for their contributions.
Three people received the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor’s Commendation: directors Woo Hyun-joo and Yoon So-young, and member Yoon Hye-kyung. The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Council Speaker’s Commendation went to four people: director Kim Bok-mi and members Kang Soon-shim, Kim Seong-ju and Song Bu-mi. Three people received plaques of appreciation from the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province superintendent of education: directors Lee Jeong-yeon and Yoo Seung-hee, and member Go Yeon-sil.
Commendations from National Assembly members were also presented. Kang Eun-hye and Kim Seo-ri received commendations from National Assembly member Kim Han-gyu, while director Park Kyung-ae and members Kim Mi-jeong and Kim Won-sook received commendations from National Assembly member Kim Seong-beom.
A plaque of appreciation from the head of the Jeju branch of the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation was presented to director Lee Myung-sil and members Go Myung-sook and Kim Jeong-yeol. The chairperson of the Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs presented a commendation to Yang Bo-yeon, a team leader at the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation.
The association plans to use the anniversary event as an opportunity to continue exchanges among women entrepreneurs and activities to strengthen members’ capabilities. Future initiatives will draw attention, as concrete support—including providing business information, fostering cooperation between companies and developing sales channels—is important to the sustained growth of women-led businesses in the region.
Jeju Association of Women Entrepreneurs president Baek Hee-sun identified strengthening women entrepreneurs’ competitiveness, nurturing female talent and supporting the economic participation of women whose careers have been interrupted as key priorities for the association. “We will hold events in various formats, including forums, discussions and cultural events, and become an association that works alongside not only Jeju’s women in business but also local residents,” she said.
