[Financial News] A program buy-sidecar, temporarily suspending program buy orders, was triggered on the KOSPI market as the index surged in the 4% range on a recovery in investor sentiment toward semiconductor stocks. It was the second consecutive day, following the previous day.
According to the Korea Exchange, program buy orders were suspended for five minutes on the securities market at around 9:54:24 a.m. that day due to a move in the KOSPI 200 futures index. At the time the sidecar was triggered, the index stood at 928.02, up 45.64 points (5.17%) from the previous day's close.
A KOSPI buy-sidecar is triggered when the KOSPI 200 futures price rises by 5% or more from its base price and stays at that level for one minute.
As of 10:07 a.m., the KOSPI was at 5,916.66, up 278.78 points (4.94%) from the previous session.
Samsung Electronics was up 7.09%, while SK hynix was up 6.11%.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was at 768.74, up 29.38 points (3.29%) from the previous session.
The results and large-scale shareholder return plan announced by SK hynix that day are believed to have boosted investor sentiment.
SK hynix reported operating profit of 83 trillion won for the third and fourth quarters, exceeding market expectations. It also unveiled a shareholder return plan worth around 100 trillion won, including cash dividends of at least 30 trillion won this year and share buybacks and cancellations of at least 60 trillion won.
