[Financial News, Hongseong = Kim Won-jun] South Chungcheong Province is organizing an event to provide job seekers from the Seoul metropolitan area with comprehensive information on not only jobs but also housing and settlement benefits, in an effort to ease the threat of regional depopulation and labor shortages at local companies.
Over two days, on the 28th and 29th, South Chungcheong Province will co-host the “2026 Jobs and Housing One-Stop Fair: Chungcheong with a Future” at the FKI Tower Conference Center in Yeouido, Seoul, with the Korea Enterprises Federation, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Chungcheongbuk-do and the Korea Federation of SMEs, among others.
The fair was planned to encourage people from the Seoul metropolitan area to move to and settle in the region by providing around 3,000 young and middle-aged job seekers with a wide range of information, including recruitment opportunities at leading companies in the Chungcheong region and housing and livelihood support measures offered by local governments. Fifteen cities and counties in the Chungcheong region and some 230 online and offline companies will take part. Nine cities and counties in South Chungcheong Province—Cheonan, Asan, Seosan, Boryeong, Buyeo, Seocheon, Yesan, Cheongyang and Hongseong—will set up booths at the venue.
Unlike conventional job fairs, which simply provide job information, this fair will link jobs with settlement support, allowing job seekers to consult on housing and living expense assistance programs—often cited as the biggest obstacles to moving to a region.
Local governments in the Chungcheong region are also expanding cooperation to attract talent and address labor shortages at companies. Daejeon, Sejong, North Chungcheong Province and South Chungcheong Province held a joint job fair for the first time this year. The cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region are also carrying out the “Chungcheong Region Growth Industries Tomorrow Link Project,” which receives 3.2 billion won in national funding to help companies and workers in the bio and mobility sectors settle in the region.
On the first day of the fair, the 28th, Gu Bon-young, South Chungcheong Province’s deputy governor for political affairs, attended the “Regional Partnership Jobs and Housing Talk Concert” and discussed practical measures to encourage people to move to non-metropolitan areas with government and business figures, businesspeople and people who have settled in the region.
A South Chungcheong Province official said, “We will actively promote job opportunities at local companies to people in the Seoul metropolitan area while coordinating housing and settlement support programs, and strengthen our support system so that job seekers from the metropolitan area can build stable lives in Chungnam.”
