[Financial News] An incident in which personal information was leaked from domestic crypto exchange Bithumb’s internal mobile system occurred on the 28th. Other crypto exchanges were also put on alert. Bithumb said it had confirmed the previous day that personal information had been leaked after an unauthorized external party gained abnormal access to its internal mobile groupware system. It reported the incident to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Personal Information Protection Commission. Bithumb said, “We are analyzing the exact scope, including whether member information was involved,” and “will issue an official notice this morning.”
Upbit, Coinone and GOPAX all said, “We are conducting regular checks, and there has been no leak of personal information.” An official at one exchange said, “There have been no leaks of personal information since the risk of hacking incidents was confirmed at the ‘Second Emergency Response Meeting’ held at the Financial Services Commission on the 14th.”
The virtual asset industry says the age of AI hacking has arrived. An industry official said, “There have been a lot more external attacks lately,” explaining, “External attacks usually have characteristics that vary by country, so you can get a rough idea of where they come from. But attacks driven by artificial intelligence (AI) don’t have those characteristics, so they can’t be traced to a specific country.”
The official said, “Even companies that spend several tens of billions of won on security are being brought down,” adding, “It seems hard to feel reassured and say, ‘We won’t get breached.’ We’re strengthening continuous monitoring and keeping a close watch.”
